The Role

We are looking for an experienced full-time Veterinary Surgeon to join our team from July 2021 to cover maternity leave, with probable part time post available at the end of the fixed term contract. A 30-minute break from consulting is included every morning and 15-30 minutes is provided at the end of every consulting session to allow for phone calls, lab reporting and paperwork completion. Working hours and days detailed below.

  • 4.5 days per week
  • 1/5 weekends (Saturday 9 am - 4 pm, Sunday 10 am - 12 pm)
  • Rota is done several months in advance
  • No OOH

About Us

Probably the friendliest, oldest vet practice in Sheffield although we do keep up to date. We are a very happy and supportive team of 5 vets, 7 nurses, 2 VCA's and 5 receptionists plus a visiting ophthalmologist, cardiologist, and orthopaedic/soft tissue surgeon.

We have digital x-ray, ultrasound, in-house blood machines including T4, dental machine, capnography and doppler blood pressure monitoring. Vacancies are rare here at Highfields - most of our team have long service awards, one vet, the practice manager and several nurses have been here 10+ years and one of our receptionists has been around for 36 years!

We work with several local charities, both dog and cat rescues and encourage the 'adopt, don't shop' ethos. We also see plenty of wildlife and have a bit of a thing about hedgehogs.

There is homemade (sometimes vegan) cake most days. If that doesn't tempt you, then we have easy access to the Peaks - several vets are keen fell runners. Feel free to chat to any of our current vets including Amber who will be leaving us temporarily for her maternity leave, or even do a locum shift or 2!

Applicant Requirements

MRCVS required, experienced, ideally OV status although we can provide training. Must be happy with sole charge, routine surgery such as neutering, lump removals, dentistry, diagnostics, radiography (although there is always someone to ask for a second opinion) and some of the more common emergencies such as feline urethral obstruction.

As a BAME and LGBT+ inclusive employer, we are keen to hear from candidates from all minority and diverse groups.

As a Disability Confident Employer, we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long-term health conditions and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.
