We are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join us permanently at Spring Lodge Vet Group in Essex. We are also keen to hear from candidates who are looking for fixed term contract roles. We have 6 sites working around a central, accredited Small Animal Hospital in Witham. The role involves 40 hours per week based on a 4 day week, within a rota system of 8am - 7pm.  This role encompasses varying shifts and clinic duties but branch continuity is prioritised for both staff and clients.

We are a host practice for Vets Now, therefore no out of hours cover is required. We run an emergency only overlap service at the weekend for our clients only, from 2pm-6pm on Saturday once we have closed, and on Sunday from 8am to 6pm. This is based on a 1:10 rota. There is also a Saturday morning consult session, based on a 1:3/4 basis. Part time applications will also be considered.

At the hospital one vet will consult in the morning, one will take care of the ward patients and one will start on the ops list. Once consults are finished and wards are able to be left with the nurses both these vets will help with the ops list. Consults are then carried out by all vets during the afternoon/evening. If the vets starts at a consult only practice they would come to the hospital in the middle of the day to operate and return to complete consults in the afternoon. For vets at a standalone branch they would consult in the morning, then work through that branches op list before consulting at the other end of the day.

We are a RCVS accredited small animal hospital in Witham Essex with 5 other branches all a short drive from the hospital. The hospital has a full lab, separate isolation, cat and dog wards. We have an orthopaedic theatre, lots of surgical kit including laparoscopic equipment and various endoscopes. Both the hospital and standalone operating branches all have digital x-ray with three out of four having ultrasound facilities.

We have a fantastic, friendly team of vets, nurses and support staff, that have a wide range of interests, and who provide support to each other whilst working within our busy clinic. We can offer excellent surgical and medical facilities as well as an interesting and varied caseload. We have all the usual kit that you would expect from a hospital standard clinic and undertake in-house orthopaedic procedures alongside laparoscopic spays and other laparoscopic procedures. We have 12 FTE vets, one of which is a certificate holder in surgery, 16 nurses, with a high proportion of RVN's, including surgical nursing diploma holders plus 4 VCA's and a dedicated reception team.

We are active in the community and often sponsor local events. Although we are a big team we are a close team that all support each other. During non covid times we like to let our hair down regularly with a good party or just by celebrating personal events with each other. The main hospital in Witham has a main line train station for easy access to London and we are within driving distance to the East coast. We have a good mixture of surrounding country side and town and we are half an hour to Stanstead airport.

We require an experienced confident, enthusiastic vet, with previous sole charge experience and the ability to fully work up a full range of medical and surgical cases. You will have a clear focus on client communication and a desire to provide the best care possible for both patients and owners. Teamwork and excellence in clinical care should be high on your agenda.
