Global Veterinary Careers are working exclusively with James Cook University in Queensland, Australia and assisting with their recruitment process to hire a Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist.

  • Annual Salary $150,000 – 200,000 (dependent on skills, qualifications & experience)
  • Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance
  • Exciting mix of clinical and teaching

The College of Public Health, Medicine and Veterinary Science at James Cook University (JCU), promotes, fosters, supports and administers quality teaching and research in diverse areas, including the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc).  JCU Veterinary Science has been independently ranked as being #1 in Australia for Educational Experience, offering an accredited teaching, research and engagement program.

Based on the JCU Campus, JCUVet, a controlled entity of the University, was established to deliver the clinical tuition of final year veterinary students.  As such, Townsville and surrounding communities rely on it for primary and referral services in North Queensland.

With state of the art facility and equipment, our friendly teams deliver structured clinical rotations for students, overseen by veterinarians who provide hands on clinical teaching, tutoring, guidance and demonstration with the support of experienced nurses.

We are embarking on an exciting period of organizational growth and positive cultural change and building a team of internal specialists to oversee, grow and develop the clinical disciplines of Emergency and Critical Care, Medicine, Surgery, Anaesthesia and Radiology.

We seek to appoint a Boarded Medicine Specialist with a demonstrated commitment to progressive patient care, lifelong learning and a keen interest in teaching and mentoring others.   You will hold DACVIM, DECVIM or FANZCVS qualifications, ideally with a background in ultrasonography.  Consideration will be given to individuals who have completed their residency and who are poised to undertake their Board examination.

As a role model to students and veterinarians, you will be invigorated by the prospects of leading the Medicine team and sharing your knowledge with others, including mentoring of less experienced veterinarians.  You will apply your expertise to in-house CE, clinician rounds, journal clubs and our continuing education program for referring veterinarians. Student teaching responsibilities include overseeing student case management, case rounds, tutorials, orientations and student assessment.

In return, we offer a competitive salary and generous benefits including annual $2000 CPD, two weeks’ Continuing Education leave and one return set of flights to an eastern seaboard capital (applicable to Specialists), payment of registrations and much more.

We’re listening.  We can design this role to suit your individual interests in terms of lifestyle and the balance between leadership, teaching, research and clinical practice.  This is a permanent full time role, with the ability to negotiate flexible working hours.
