First Opinion Clinical Director required at Scarsdale Vets, Derby
The Role
This Clinical Director role provides some great opportunities for a driven and experienced Veterinary professional to develop their career in a busy and progressive team. You will have proven management and leadership skills and be able to prioritise and manage your workload so that our clients and team feel supported. You will work alongside our Business Support Manager and Pride Hospital Manager, as well as a full support team at our hospital in Derby, the Pride Veterinary Centre, including L&D, HR, Marketing and Finance. We are looking for someone with some expe-rience of small animal care, a good working knowledge of core proce-dures and proven excellent client service skills. This is a varied and exciting role where no two days will be the same. It will provide a good mix of management and clinical time and involvement.
The role is full time, working 4 days per week. General opening hours are 8am to 7pm with an even balance of early and late finishes with some weekend work. Out of hours services are provided by our Referrals Hospital at Pride Park so are not a requirement for this role.

We are the largest provider of veterinary care in the East Midlands. The main hospital is based at Pride Park in Derby and is home to a busy first opinion practice, a multidisciplinary referral service and an out-of-hours service. We have 12 practice sites in Derby, Burton and Nottingham with well-equipped on-site facilities offering a high-quality local service. As a large veterinary care business, we have a fantastic and passionate team all working to give the best care possible.
At Pride Veterinary Centre, the Client Care Advisors will interact face-to-face with clients at the reception desks and man the telephones in the dedicated call centre. Clinic Nurses support on consulting days as well as running dedicated clinics and carrying out post-op check and second vaccinations. Hospital Nurses form the backbone of the team in Wards, Prep and Theatre, together with Kennel and Theatre Assistants. The multidisciplinary referral clinicians, residents and interns are happy to give case management advice and ensure smooth handover of cases patient who require specialist care, as well as enabling continuity when they are returned to you. With these teams around you, it is important that you can build relationships and be confident in making decisions. Client facing skills are also vital for this role, allowing the creation of long-term relationships.
Applicant Requirements
Required skills and experience:
- Experienced in small animal work, ideally in a similar practice setting
- Ability to make decisions, prioritise and delegate
- Strong leadership skills
- Commitment to continuous development (self and team)
- Excellent client communication skills
Would be good to have:
- Previous management experience
- Have a relevant veterinary certificate or business-related post-graduate qualification
- A local working knowledge of our competitor practices
- Experience of developing teams and coaching individuals
