We are looking for a forward thinking, motivated, experienced veterinary nurse to join and lead our team as HEAD VETERINARY NURSE here at Okeford.

We are an RCVS Accredited practice with an RCVS “outstanding client care award” and an ISFM silver award. The main site is in Okehampton; located on the edge of Dartmoor with a newly refurbished branch practice in Chagford with beautiful views onto the moors. We are a dedicated companion animal veterinary clinic with exceptionally high standards, modern facilities and an extensive range of specialist equipment including laparoscopy, endoscopy, digital x-ray, dental x-ray & ultrasound.  We are a small, friendly and experienced team of 8 vets (3 certificate holders and 2 advanced practitioners), 4 RVNs, 1 SVN, 3 PCAs & 5 receptionists. We also receive referrals in surgery and dermatology and are a SVN training practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the clinical director in leading the clinical team. The position is for up to 37.5 hours per week on a variable rota between 8am-6pm to include 1:6 Saturdays (7.5 hours) with no OOH, however we would consider part time hours which fit within our requirements.

Key skills required:

  • Must be registered with the RCVS as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Proven experience of managing a team of people (ideally Head Nurse or Deputy Head Nurse)
  • Demonstrate ability to ensure delivery of exceptional patient care
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Team Player
  • Excellent communication to internal and external customers  (both written and verbal)
  • Self-motivated and motivational to others 
  • Positive and enthusiastic  approach to tasks
  • Ability to  work on own initiative
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to record and document clear accurate information
  • Ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with difficult situations
  • Ability to effectively balance study and work
  • Mobility to all branches within a practice group & attend regional and national meetings
  • Computer skills including Microsoft, Excel and Power point
