Job Details

Tell us what you want from a job and see if we can accommodate. Do you like independence or to be fully integrated in a practice?

We are looking for a vet to help run a five vet practice from three premises. The position can be fully integrated working out of two of the premises or the autonomy of running your own clinic or some hybrid combination.

We want a vet who is a keen general practitioner and likes consulting. You must be a good communicator and have the ability to manage other staff in their team, whether that comprises  the clinic they are at or the group of staff they are working with at the time. They also need to be good at medicine and surgery.

The Practice
The practice operates from two sites in Swindon and one in Royal Wootton Bassett. The main premises is at Purton road and the two branches are both about five miles from there. Please visit our web site – thameswoodvets.co.uk .  All three premises are fully staffed and all have operating facilities. A high nurse to vet ratio makes the working day more successful and satisfying while using the full in house laboratory and diagnostic facilities. There is also good back up from the many receptionists and additional management staff. Although we provide a high level of veterinary service we try to maintain a happy atmosphere at work and an open culture at work. It is therefore of prime importance that our staff get on well. Hopefully work is anything but a chore but we still value our time off for outside interests.

The Role
Our Vision: being the best first opinion practice in the area offering an exceptional and ethical approach to client care and veterinary treatment to pets and their families. This, at a profit that will allow us to be a respected training centre for nurses and with a high level of continuing professional development of all our staff.

Suitable candidates must be able to contribute to our provision of high quality care so medical and surgical skills must be sufficient to cope with the majority of routine cases.

There is a team of five vets with the senior vet based at Purton Road and the assistant vets will work at one of the branches and the main clinic. The working day is a mix of consulting and diagnostics and surgery every day with the vets encouraged to follow through their own cases as much as possible. First consults are at 9 and the last consults are at 6:30pm so you are usually finished in time to enjoy the evenings after work.

Each clinic has a fully functional prep. room and operating theatre plus all have dental bases. In this way,  routine and minor ops. and dental care can be carried out at each clinic without the need to transport patients between clinics.  Some days it will be better to remain at one clinic where as on other days you might finish morning consults and then want to travel to the main clinic for diagnostic work or more involved procedures.

Successful Candidate
The suitable candidate must be capable, confident and caring. A special interest would be desirable but more importantly the candidate needs to be competent in all aspects of medicine, diagnostics and surgery.

The Package
The starting salary  ( £35k – 50k ) will vary depending on experience but is always subject to review and we monitor performance monthly. The rota is a basic four day week with a relatively early finish compared with practice averages. On top of this you will be on a one in four rota to provide weekend cover. Out of hours emergency work is taken care of by Vets Now whose premises are in the centre of Swindon. CPD budget is £1,500pa and we will support any candidate who wishes to pursue further studies.
Healthcare and pension packages are offered.
