Job Details

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Director to join our single site small animal practice in beautiful Hereford. This is a full time maternity cover position. The role involves working closely with the rest of the team on a day to day basis, providing clinical support and guidance where needed. It also involves working closely with the Business Support Manager, to be aware of changes that are happening on a group-wide basis and enable these changes at a practice level.

You should be an experienced and competent veterinary surgeon who is willing to lead the team in clinical matters and help in their development. You should also be confident in dealing with HR matters, including appraisals, performance reviews and disciplinary issues where required. The role involves managing the diary and the day to day running of the clinic, being involved in the finances of the clinic and leading the progression and development of the practice. There is time for administration duties alongside consultations and surgery. You will be involved in the support of our new graduate vets out of hours as well as being a part of the out of hours rota. The rota is currently a 1:5 weekend rota but some of these weekends are currently shared. You will cover night duties in the week when vets are on holiday but the out of hours work is paid separately to your salary.

As a practice we endeavour to set high standards and keep up with new developments to give the best possible service to our clients, as such we are a RCVS accredited practice. We are a nurse training practice and run a variety of nurse clinics including senior/puppy checks and weight management. We have many long standing nurses who began as volunteers and went on to train with us who now hold senior positions. We have a visiting cardiologist, orthopaedic specialist and ultrasonographer attend the practice also. We have one vet currently undertaking her Cardiology certificate and another doing her surgery certificate. We have our own in-house laboratory, digital x-ray, multi parameter anaesthetic monitoring machine, ultrasound and ECG.

Management experience is not required as there is support from the BSM and a development programme available. However, a calm and friendly approach to situations is essential as well as being open, approachable and trustworthy. Being an experienced vet is also important in your leadership and guidance role. You need to have the confidence to deal with challenging situations, have good organisational skills and be able to problem solve.
