Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgeon

We are looking for a dynamic individual with all-round clinical ability, but with an interest in small animal orthopaedics. Working alongside our current small animal surgery team during a transition period, to further develop this aspect of the business. The position will be based at Charter Veterinary Hospital, Roundswell, Barnstaple and would suit an orthopaedic RCVS Advanced Practitioner, ideally with CT experience.

You will have experience working at referral level within a small animal practice. Working as part of a skilled team will enable you to work up cases with additional support from working in a hospital environment alongside colleagues with Advanced Practitioner status in Anaesthesia, recognised qualifications in Dentistry and an experienced, skilled and motivated nursing team with additional relevant qualifications.

In our 2006 build, tier 3 hospital, we have onsite CT, visiting MRI and a dedicated orthopaedic theatre with 2/2.4/2.7/3.5 locking kits, SOPS, spinal set, PAUL, Anprolene, Arthrex TPLO, Arthrex HD synergy Arthroscopy Suite and Hydrotherapy.

An effective and empathetic communicator with a desire to make a contribution that counts to both patients and clients alike, growing and nurturing a pre-existing strong internal and external referral client base. Workload is approximately 80% internal referral work, which is fed from our 5 site primary care service. There is potential to further develop the current referral caseload to include, for example, a THR service for a driven candidate.

This is a lead surgeon role in a 12 vet team, with part time support as required during a transition period from the current lead surgeon. Out of hours work is triaged by our primary care team.

Salary upwards from £100K. Renumeration would be negotiable relative to skill set, agreed hours of service and potential to expand external referrals.
