The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys and mules worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.

We now have an excellent opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team of 10 vets, 6 nurses and 1 intern, who enjoy our work and are passionate about donkeys and their role in the world. Based at our newly built, fully equipped veterinary hospital near Honiton, Devon, you will undertake routine and emergency clinical care of all animals resident at The Donkey Sanctuary, and at any of our six local farms that care for 2,700 donkeys and mules. This position will be suitable for a fully qualified, MRCVS registered Vet with experience of ambulatory equine practice and a welfare driven attitude to veterinary medicine.

In addition to routine equine work we take a herd health based approach to our veterinary care providing evidence based management advice. We will also be offering an exposure to the wider remit of the charity working alongside the welfare, research and pathology and global programmes teams. Experience of donkey medicine and surgery, and of working for an equine charity, is desirable.

If you feel you have the qualifications, skills and experience to fulfil this varied, rewarding and vital role, and would like to be part of the evolving program of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. Based near Honiton, Devon – this is a full-time, 12 month fixed term contract working 37.5 hours a week plus evening and weekend work as part of a rota.

Closing date for completed applications: Thursday 5 September 2019.
