Discipline Specific Internship Programme
Highcroft Referrals is launching a new discipline specific internship for veterinary surgeons interested in emergency critical care and anaesthesia. We are looking for four enthusiastic and highly motivated interns who are committed to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care and who would relish the opportunity to further their career, improve their knowledge base and technical skills. Our subject specific internship programme aims to nurture the best and brightest Veterinary Surgeons to serve as the foundations and grassroots for future generations as well as prepare them for advanced postgraduate training programmes such as residencies.
The Internship Programme
The internship at Highcroft Referrals is a 12 month fixed-term position. In this exciting role, you will work under the supervision of and support specialists in your chosen discipline.
The four ECC/anaesthesia intern positions will provide a balance of emergency accepting, out-of-hours care and anaesthesia/pain management, under the supervision of our specialist team. They will work alongside our five pre-existing discipline specific interns in oncology, internal medicine, neurology and two surgery interns.
Our ECC/anaesthesia interns will share a 1-in-4 rota on the following basis:
- One week of daytime emergency case accepting service
- One week of overnight patient care and emergency accepting service
- One week off
- One week of anaesthesia
During these shifts you will be working alongside Registered Veterinary Nurses and will be responsible for patient's admissions, care of critical referral patients and in-patient assessments in wards with back-up support from clinicians in different disciplines.
Personal specification for application
A proactive, professional approach, positive attitude at all times, outstanding interpersonal skills, ability to stay calm under pressure, great teamwork skills, along with a commitment to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care is required.
If you think you have these skills and wish to apply for an Internship at Highcroft Veterinary Referrals you must be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon and be eligible for full, and organise yourself, Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Applicants must be an MRCVS by the date the internship starts, and ideally by the date of application and interview.
