The School of Veterinary Science at The University of Queensland (UQ) invites applications for Small Animal Surgeons at our Gatton based Hospital – UQ VETS. The UQ Gatton campus is located in sunny South East Queensland, approximately 1-hour drive from the capital city of Brisbane and within 1.5 hours of the world-renowned Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast regions.

The role: The position will be responsible for providing high quality small animal surgery services within the Small Animal Hospital situated on the Gatton campus. The appointee will participate in the management of primary, emergency and referral cases in small animal surgery services. In addition to ensuring excellence in clinical care, the appointee will actively participate in the clinical teaching and instruction of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary science and veterinary technology students as well as clinical training of interns and residents. 

The person: Applicants should possess a BVSc (or equivalent) that is registrable in Queensland, together equivalent advanced clinical training and qualification that meets eligibility requirements for registration in Queensland as a veterinary specialist in small animal surgery.

Candidates with Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS) in Small animal Surgery and/or board-eligible candidates (recently completed or in the process of completing an accredited residency training program) are also encouraged to apply and will be considered.

Remuneration: This is a full-time, fixed-term position of 12 months advertised at multiple levels HEW 8 and 9. Though the position is full-time, there is flexibility to negotiate a part-time/short-term or flexible work arrangements.

The remuneration package for HEW Level 8 will be in the range AUD$96,466 - $108,318 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of 9.5%.

The remuneration package for HEW Level 9 will be in the range AUD$113,095 - $119,678 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of 9.5%.

In addition, this position may attract a clinical loading. The University also offers a relocation allowance and annual financial support for continuing education. The University will also support visa sponsorship for applicants from overseas.
