The University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM), is seeking applicants for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Equine Regenerative Medicine to contribute to the Research Strategy of Engineering Solutions for Health. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure-track). The anticipate start date is July 1, 2019.

The Tier II CRC will be expected to establish an independent, externally funded research program with an emphasis on equine regenerative medicine. The position also provides an excellent opportunity to interact with other established research groups in the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Science, Kinesiology, Engineering and Medicine. This is primarily a research position, but the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching  in the DVM and graduate programs in areas related to their expertise.

Tier II CRCs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier II chair assessed through the program’s Tier II justification process. The candidate will be an excellent emerging researcher who has demonstrated research creativity and innovation, and the potential to achieve international recognition within the next five to ten years. Qualifications include a PhD with a strong track record of equine and regenerative medical research. A DVM or equivalent degree is also considered an asset. 

The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor rank must demonstrate evidence of a track record of publications in high quality journals, securing external research funding, and effectiveness in teaching. 

UCVM has approximately 70 faculty members, 130 staff, 125 DVM students, 110 graduate students, 25 post-doctoral fellows, and 15 advanced clinical trainees. UCVM’s DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 30-32 students per year. The program is an integrated core-elective program, with enhanced educational opportunities in defined areas that combine discipline-based courses with extensive on-campus and off-campus experiential learning. UCVM is a research-intensive faculty with expanding research, graduate education, and advanced clinical trainee programs.
