Residency in Veterinary Clinical Pathology

Interested in a career in Laboratory Medicine and Cytology?

At the Veterinary Pathology Group we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic clinician to join our residency programme and train as a veterinary clinical pathologist.

Our programme extends over four years and covers all aspects of clinical pathology through an ideal blend of practical diagnostic service under the guidance of experienced mentors and access to all the academic materials needed to successfully undertake the Royal College of Pathologists’ and American Board examinations in clinical pathology.

During this training programme you will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the reporting and validating of daily diagnostic work which includes haematology, coagulation, cytology, clinical biochemistry, urinalysis, endocrinology and laboratory management.
  • Consultation on phone calls from clients relating to previous and future cases as well as general clinical pathology questions.
  • Participate in journal clubs and clinical pathology resident rounds.

Upon completion of the residency there are excellent long term career opportunities, as well as other positions available at the Veterinary Pathology Group’s other five laboratories within the UK and Ireland. Together we employ the largest group of European and American boarded veterinary clinical pathologists in the UK with an outstanding reputation for the quality and range of diagnostic pathology services we offer.

There are three residency positions available, one at CTDS (near Leeds), one at TDDS (Exeter) and one at PTDS (near Hitchin, just outside of London). Our programme includes paid designated time for private study in addition to extensive in-service training. There will also be externships to other laboratories available and opportunities to participate at international conferences and online training.

In addition to a real appetite for clinical pathology you will need a veterinary degree which is registrable by the RCVS, a minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a veterinarian, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to work rapidly and accurately as part of the laboratory team.

In return we offer a competitive salary, holiday and paid CPD package together with work place pension and annual bonus schemes. The Veterinary Pathology Group is part of SYNLAB, Europe’s largest and most advanced diagnostic laboratory services provider.

To apply for this position, please send your CV and covering letter by email directly to Fiona Gosling at fionae@ptdslab.co.uk. Any informal enquires are also greatly encouraged. The closing date for applications is 25th July 2018 or until the position is filled.
