Arran Vets Ltd

Website

Arran Vets is the only veterinary practice on the Isle of Arran and is an independent, first opinion mixed veterinary practice. We aim to provide high quality veterinary care to all the animals on the Isle of Arran. We moved into a purpose built, new and well equipped veterinary surgery in September 2017 with a car park and spacious new vet’s flat attached.

The practice is 75% small animal with the rest equine and farm animal. Farms are largely beef cattle and sheep with 2 dairy farms that provide milk to the island creamery producing the excellent Arran cheese.

I am very keen to support staff development, initiatives and cpd and aim to constantly update our practices to the best possible achievable standards as general practioners on an island setting. If you are stronger in some aspects of mixed practice than others than I am happy to support your development so you feel comfortable at a general level in all areas.

We are proud to serve the close knit community on Arran to the very best of our ability. The Isle of Arran has a thriving population of around 5000 permanent residents with great village primary schools and a High School in Lamlash. The population is nearer double that in the spring and summer with visiting holiday makers.

We also provide care to any injured wildlife which includes anything from otters to red squirrels, seals, red deer, swans, gannets, guillemots and  Golden eagles !

Our out of hours service is, by necessity, provided by ourselves but this is a quiet practice and our clients are mindful of our need for time off so there is plenty of time to enjoy all the island has to offer.

Glasgow is easily reached for shopping and veterinary referral services, the port of Ardrossan being 55 mins away by the Calmac car ferry and from there Glasgow city centre  and the veterinary school are around 45 mins by train or car .

The Isle of Arran is often described as Scotland in miniature with the mountains in the North and beautiful beaches in the South and West! Voted one of the top 7 islands in the world by CNN . Trivago's top European island 2016. Home to the annual Arran Mountain Festival, Arran folk weekend, Geology weekend, Lamlash splash, outdoor swim from Holy Isle back to Arran , Ironman weekend, Agricultural show, Highland Games, round the island cycle events, Goatfell run, 7 stunning golf courses , 2 riding centres, sheep dog trials and competitive sea rowing club to name but a few events!

I took over the practice in April 2015 and have found the move to Arran from Hampshire extremely rewarding, no regrets! I hope to keep on developing and improving the practice with the help of an enthusiastic assistant with farm animal skills.
