The opportunity

Great opportunity for a veterinary surgeon to thrive and become an integral part of a growing small animal practice in Driffield East Yorkshire. This would suit a broad range of experience levels from confident recent graduate with some small animal experience to someone looking to set down roots. You'll be encouraged to build your own client list and have full clinical freedom to work with them for the wellbeing of their companions.

Your skills

You are a cheerful small animal Vet looking to embrace general practice with the huge variety of cases, people and animals it presents, as well as enjoying great work/life balance as part of a compact vet team. General surgical skills would be an advantage.

As a confident communicator, fluent in English, you look forward to meeting and talking with clients on a daily basis, as well as greeting and caring for their companions.

 The offer

The salary package will be in line with your experience from £34,000 to £50,000 and includes the use of a two-bedroom furnished flat, within 5 minutes walk of the practice.

The working days are 8am to 2pm, noon to 7pm and 9am to 4 pm on a one in three basis. Saturdays are 8am to12. The surgeries are all appointment and you would start with 15 minute consults reducing to 10 minute as you become used to the practice.

The quiet equally shared out of hours one in three rota nights and weekends has, on average, one telephone call per duty, with one visit back to the surgery around every 5 phone calls, so pretty stress free. There will be sole charge when on call with a nurse available at all times.

Three days relevant CPD is encouraged and funded.

You will get 23 days holiday plus five of the eight bank holidays.

Royal college and VDS fees will be paid when due.

The practice

Bridge Street Vets was established in 2013 but in that short time has become a very well respected and most recommended practice in the town largely due to our people orientated approach.

We occupy a former doctor’s surgery, within which we knocked down a few walls and moved a few doorways and, hey presto, a spacious, sunny environment to work in. (As you'll see from the pictures on our web page we also did quite a lot more.)  We are proud to show new clients around and everybody is impressed on how light and spacious it is.

Facilities include;

  • two consulting rooms with height adjustable tables (with a third planned),
  • two waiting areas,
  • separate dog and cat inpatient wards,
  • isolation ward,
  • imaging room, with digital x ray and ultrasound scanner
  • in house IDEXX  haematology and biochemistry analysers,
  • dedicated operating theatre
  • large preparation area
  • Dental station with nitrogen powered air tools and ultrasonic scaler.

In addition we have our own fully equipped ‘Sunshine Groomers’ salon with two groomers employed by the practice.

The south facing gardens to the rear provide us with the ideal place for a relaxing sunny lunchtime break.

As a VN training practice we have one fully qualified nurse with a second in her first year and a third waiting to start training and follow in their footsteps.

The Town

Driffield, a former market town at the foot of the East Yorkshire Wolds, lies between the historic city of York and the picturesque East Coast sandy beaches firmly in the heart of David Hockney country. It is ideally placed for a broad range of pastimes and outdoor pursuits. There are local schooIs from infant through to sixth form within the town, and a good stock of new and traditional houses. It has its own sports centre and swimming pool, a variety of pubs and restaurants as well as many local sports clubs and societies. There are direct railway links to Hull, Doncaster and Sheffield with onward connections to wherever you choose to go.
