Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor (Veterinary Clinical Pathology) in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health, Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences

The new Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences at City University of Hong Kong in collaboration with Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is assembling an outstanding group of international academics to undertake teaching and research in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health. The Department is rapidly developing as an international research-oriented centre to support veterinary training and research in Hong Kong and the region.  It is well positioned to provide a strong link between the preclinical veterinary sciences and applied (clinical) veterinary medicine.  In another dimension it focuses on One Health, an area spanning the health of animals, humans and the environment. The Department plays a key role in teaching students for the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme and the MSc in Aquatic Production and Veterinary Health, as well as in other related activities such as enabling postgraduate research opportunities. Departmental faculty members undertake teaching, research and diagnostic service across their areas of specialty.

Duties

The appointee is expected to contribute to the further development and implementation of the professional veterinary curriculum in the field of Pathobiology, including but not limited to pathology, and build a strong presence in the new College with a vision to further Emerging Infectious Diseases, Food Safety and/or Animal Health research, and veterinary education in the region. The appointee will teach and manage undergraduate and postgraduate courses; develop new research directions and maintain robust research programmes; and contribute to administrative work and other duties to facilitate the development of the Department and the College as a whole. Ability and willingness to help support veterinary diagnostic services and to work with clinicians would be an advantage.

Requirements

Applicants must have research and teaching experience in the veterinary specialty area that they are applying for, commensurate with the academic level sought. A PhD in the corresponding area or Diplomate status in a recognised specialty board is required, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent veterinary degree registrable in Hong Kong is highly preferred.

Applicants must have a demonstrable international reputation in their area of research expertise, including the ability to attract
external research funding and publish in high impact international journals. Candidates for the post of Professor should possess a proven record of distinguished scholarly accomplishments including significant external funding support, strong leadership capabilities, and active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
