The Donkey Sanctuary is one of the UK’s largest international animal welfare charities, currently supporting projects in over 35 countries worldwide. We are working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.

We now have an excellent opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team of 10 vets, 6 nurses and 1 intern, who enjoy our work and are passionate about donkeys and their role in the world. Based at our newly built, fully equipped veterinary hospital near Honiton, Devon, you will undertake routine and emergency clinical care of all animals resident at The Donkey Sanctuary, and at any of our six local farms that care for 2,700 donkeys and mules. This position will be suitable for a fully qualified, MRCVS registered Vet with experience of equine practice and a welfare driven attitude to veterinary medicine.

In addition to routine equine work we take a herd health based approach to our veterinary care providing evidence based management advice. We will also be offering an exposure to the wider remit of the charity working alongside the welfare, research and pathology and global programmes teams. Experience of donkey medicine and surgery, and of working for an equine charity, is desirable.

If you feel you have the qualifications, skills and experience to fulfil this varied, rewarding and vital role, and would like to be part of the evolving program of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. Based in Sidmouth, Devon – “an area of outstanding natural beauty” – this is a part-time, permanent contract working 7.5 hours each Friday, starting in April 2019.

For an informal discussion, please contact Luke Poore on 01395 579162.

Closing date for completed applications: 12.30 pm on Monday 18 March 2019.
